So, what was I talking about a few weeks ago regarding that geeky idea? Well, I took that weekend to brush up on my PHP and mySQL and designed a little app for the forthcoming Toronto International Film Festival. I’ll get into much more detail about the purpose & features over the next week, but until then it’s ready enough for a small preview.
Without further ado, here’s Parabola’s Toronto International Film Festival Database! Yeah, that’s a mouthful, so for short just call it pTIFFdb… which, thanks to a comment from Kyle, is pronounced like you’re giving someone a ‘raspberry’.
At its most basic, pTIFFdb is simply a listing of the films which will be showing at next month’s Film Festival. Simple profiles are available, with links to further info. But by creating your own account you can rank the films based on how much you want to see them; this will be handy once showtimes are announced and here you’ll be able to pick which ones you want to go to and help manage your schedule. While the main purpose of this app will be as an aid for Mike and I with our 30 selections each, maybe others who stumble across it will find it useful, especially in future years after this initial release.
P.S. – some design issues will be discussed later, but a browser with good CSS implementation is best. So, certain things will look weird with IE … sorry, but hacking it to get around IE limitations is low on the priority list right now. Download Firefox instead.
