Mojo

The unfortunate news in this post is that I’ve had to put Mojo down.

I don’t think I went into it before, but she had a history of medical problems when she was with Brad. She’d been recovering nicely since her last sickness, and seemed to be doing really well after bringing her to Mississauga; she was much more active and looking healthy again. But within a couple of months she was getting sick all over the apartment. The results from the vet indicated her kidneys were at least 60% deteriorated. There wasn’t a treatment for the condition, but we switched her to low-protein food that her system could handle.

This seemed to work quite well for the past number of months, but over the last few weeks she had been vomiting intermittently. Then it got to be a regular occurrence over the past couple of days. We had figured the change in diet could only work until her kidneys got worse, and this seemed to be that point. As much as I’m a cat-lover, I’m also practical and wasn’t prepared to pay for trips to Toronto for the expensive kitty-equivalent of dialysis. Even if I was, between visits to flush out her kidneys you’re just waiting for her to get sick again. So rather than let her get as sick as she had been a few months ago, I made the arrangements for euthanasia and we made the final trip to the vet yesterday evening.
