Our second Midnight Madness film was the unapologetically silly splatterfest Evil Aliens. Part homage to cheesy, B-horror/sci-fi and equal doses of hilarity, I think Mike is right in that it would be a good late-night choice for a future Movie Day. Memorable (not always a good thing) scenes of anal probing and alien/human sex will linger, so be warned.
After sleeping in a bit on Sunday (a thanks to Mike’s dad & step-mom for letting me crash at their place for a couple of nights and simplifying my travel arrangements), our afternoon movie was Seven Swords and we met up with Jen and Lionel at Ryerson. This was a big time epic from a bunch of famous Hong Kong martial arts folks. It definitely had its cool moments, with some great action sequences, nifty weaponry, and many limbs a flyin’.
Unfortunately it may have been a little too grandiose. It was hard to follow some of the story (especially with subtitles whipping by a few times) and we hardly got to know a number of the characters attached to each of those seven swords. Considering the pace of much of the story, the combat bits were somewhat short and too far between. There’s always room for both, I just don’t think they had the best balance.
Afterwards, the four of us went to a Japanese restaurant for dinner. Based on earlier trials in Ottawa, I knew I’d skip the sushi! We killed some time at Jen’s place before Mike and I headed off to Ryerson once again for another Midnight Madness show. Luckily I didn’t make it far from Jen’s building before realizing I forgot my wallet there! Yeah, dumbass, I know. More on the showing of Isolation in another post!

“skip the shusi!”…oooh you mean no hunks of raw fish on rice that all taste like wasabi and soy sauce anyways?? You didn’t like them?
