Not that I have any of my own, but everyone else seemed to be getting in on the act. Heck, Kyle even had that grocery thing going on.
The most surreal thing to go down is that Dean is joining the priesthood. What an odd sentence that is. While an unexpected development, it is not totally shocking. I didn’t have much of a reaction beyond that I’m happy for Dean if that’s what he wants to do. For me it’s hard to reconcile very intelligent people doing religious-y things, but it’s not like I’m out there busting my ass to save the world or work on that pesky grand unified theory, so who am I to judge what a good use of one’s time is?
The funniest part is that now with most of my friends from London no longer actually there, it’s the northern Ontario boy who will be moving in for his studies! Well, this is the place were MPs will resign their positions rather than vote for allowing people to have equal rights regardless of their sexual orientation. And a town once hit with a human rights violation for not giving the same considerations to a gay pride event as they do for other groups. Yup, it’s a conservative enough place for religious folk.
I got together with Tanya for dinner the night after Dean phoned me up with the news (the Indian restaurant we were at a subject of a story for later). At one point the topic was all the people we knew buying houses, getting married, having babies … all that grown up stuff. Fittingly enough, later that night I heard from Billie that she and Ryan had gotten engaged while on their Alberta trip. I am confident I will be the only one nerdy enough to comment that her ring has a saddle critical point.
And speaking of these people, they all finally had a chance to visit me.
I had actually dropped off Billie and Ryan at Pearson the week before, as they were in this part of the province visiting some family. They flew back from Alberta on the long weekend and stayed at my place before driving back to Ottawa. While they were in town, there was an Irish pub in the Streetsville area that we went to a couple of times (if I’ve got this straight, it belongs to Ryan’s cousin’s girlfriend’s family) and we also saw Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Worth a viewing, especially if you like something somewhat disturbing.
Dean brought some things to London for storage and visited a bunch of friends in Waterloo this past week. He stayed over on Monday night beforehand, and we hit up a Cora’s for breakfast in the morning. Thanks to Tanya I now know there’s one right around the corner from me; I thought they were just an Ottawa thing. He stopped by Mississauga again on Friday afternoon, before seeing some other friends that night and heading home the next morning. He relayed news that Kelli is now also engaged! Apparently the condition is contagious.
Enough writing for now, but stories of Firefly marathon and the week of many movies are still to come.
