So I’m chilling out on the balcony, wireless strength at excellent, the rain only falling lightly now and no wind to direct my way. I’m out here to take refuge from the very loud and annoying fire alarm currently blaring in my apartment and throughout the building. Of course, I’m only back up here after the nice fireman said it was okay to go back in and it was just a malfunction. Apparently this might go on for a while.
But at least I took the time to vacate the building once the alarm sounded and got a safe distance away as the fire trucks arrived. A surprising (oh, who am I kidding) number of tenants feel the best place to be when an alarm goes off is the safety of their balcony. I guess it’s better to wait it out and confirm there’s an emergency before actually bothering to take any action. Because, you know, time is never an important factor in these types of situations.
