Deja That Vu One More Time

Well, my ass got handed to me on my survival analysis final. For a good 25% worth of the marks, I either left it blank or wrote some non-mark-worthy gibberish. You’d think I would have learned my lesson from the midterm. Actually, as bad as I thought that went, I ended up with a decent grade in the low eighties; the only marks I lost were for the one part-question I didn’t answer. No such hope this time.

I totally concentrated on the wrong things while studying: results and applied data analysis. While I was expecting there to be some derivations involved, I didn’t count on them being lifted basically from the notes. While studying I went over these enough to understand them, but obviously not in depth enough to be able to reproduce them.

The low mark I’ll receive won’t bug me as much as it might have in the past. It’s more about embarrassment before the prof, someone who I really respect. For all the career help and advice he’s given me over the past couple of terms, besides being a good teacher, it seems like learning the material and performing well is the least I could do.

who cares how you did on the test… did you beat the average?

It’s all about beating the average.

Based on talking with some other people in my class, I don’t think the average was much to write home about. So I probably beat the average, if that can be taken as consolation.
