Fresh off the news of my brother’s engagement, let all the related hoopla begin. There’s apparently an engagement party happening on Saturday night being hosted by Lisa’s parents. Only very recently did it occur to me that this might be a gift-giving occasion.
Billie said yes, to which I expressed mocked outrage. How many times are people allowed to milk this? Isn’t one gift at the reception enough? Maybe if people didn’t waste so much on the wedding in the first place they’d have more cash to get the stuff that ends up on their gift registries. 
And don’t get me started on the concept of engagement rings!
Anyway, some surfing around found conflicting reports on the situation; but the fact that there’s no consensus is good enough for me, and many sites mentioned that the bride and groom-to-be should not expect gifts. And maybe the fact that Brad has yet to get me anything for my birthday from a few weeks ago evens things out.
