Sometimes they happen. The proverbial one of those days. Yesterday definitely qualified.
It was while showering that I remembered that the latest “Design Activity” was due later that morning in my sampling class. We’re going through the process of designing a survey, and every couple of weeks we look at the next step in the process. The activities are rather short, such as ’suggest some outcomes we would be interested in for this type of survey’, and ‘come up with one question and possible responses which may appear on the survey’. Real brief and to the point, so luckily I had time to review the latest one while eating my breakfast and type up my submission before heading to class. No sweat, luckily I remembered just in time.
Walk to campus.
As I approach my office door, I reach for my keys … which are not in any of my pockets. Dramatic camera pull-back, rewind back to the house, equally dramatic zoom in on the table by our entrancway; focus on my set of keys sitting atop the newly delivered phone book. D’oh!! Fortunately Judith is in the office, so I can at least get in. She’s still there after my class. I fire up MSN Web Messenger and luckily Heather is online. I ask her to put my keys in a hiding place so I can get them when I return home, knowing she’ll be in class then. Yay Heather!
Later that afternoon I’m playing squash with Matt. At one point he’s about to hit a return, so I turn my head back to face the forward wall. Whack! Squash ball right in the back of the head. It stung for a few minutes, but I’m very glad he happened not to have hit the ball too hard. At least I came out ahead in terms of games won this time, so some things are going my way.
Back at home, productivity late in the afternoon was rather low, as I was extremely tired. So of course I fell asleep, and had a few hours worth of napping. It messed up my nightime pattern, when at 12:30 that night I forced myself to go to bed despite being not that tired. I needed to get up at 6:30 this morning, so I knew staying up much later would be a bad idea. I had trouble getting to sleep, but it turned out for the best while as I was laying there I remembered I had forgotten to set my alarm! Thus, I avoided today starting out as one of those days.
