Back in the 'Loo

I was spoiled and got a ride back home this morning from my Dad. I come into a very echo-y house. Virginia and Graham were home, but both Stacey and Dan have been gone for a few days. Heather, the girl moving into Stacey’s room, isn’t due until the 10th. Apparently Virginia’s dad had someone lined up for Dan’s room, a foreign student, but due to some family issues or somesuch he had to back out. We’re not sure if that room will end up being rented out.

So, things are going to be *very* quiet up here for this week, particularly as I’ll be busy with Orientation Week stuff most of the time. And this term may turn out to be relatively congestion-free with only two upstairs tenants.

So, Orientation kicked off this afternoon. We picked up our leader gear, and I’m quite impressed. The team t-shirts are a nice green, something that I’ll definitely wear after the week is over. My team’s Tsunami logo on the back is cool, too. We also have long-sleeve shirts to wear underneath if we want, color-coded by type of leader. As an icebreaker, I have black. The weather is looking pretty hot, so that piece of clothing may not see much use for outdoor activities. We also have fisherman hats (for lack of a better description), and awesome windbreakers — even “awesomer” once I realized the sleeves zip off below the elbow.

After going over some prep details, teams made banners and all the leaders helped stuff frosh kits. I think our banner turned out really well. Meg, one of my frosh from last year, came up with a neat technique to stylize our tsunami. I will have to get pictures.

I skipped the campus-wide leader party tonight as … well, that’s just not my scene. Instead, I went to Mike’s for a while and developed a good case of Nintendo Thumb by playing NHL 2004. It was pretty rough at the beginning, getting accustomed to the controls and losing severly in the process. By the end, our matches were pretty competitive and I pulled out some good wins.

I’m listening to the Garden State soundtrack right now. Highly recommended.
