Alright, this is a good enough place to note this stuff so I don’t forget. Series premieres to note: Amazing Race 6 (CBS) Sept. 25 I spent the day in Toronto, attending a Jays/Yankees game with my dad. After getting creamed in the first three games of the series, the Jays pulled one out in an exciting win. The game was delayed a little over an hour due to a power outage. Traffic getting off the Gardiner was crazy, due [...] Whew, I’m tired! I’ve spent most of the past three days clearing out and cleaning my parents’ family room in the basement. I haven’t seen this much of the carpet in here in years! For a while now, this room has become a dumping ground for stuff, cleaning habits have gone downhill, [...] Undoubtedly the worse comic strip in existence, Ziggy has become the focal point of a great and epic battle between Dean and I that began years ago while still working at RIM. I don’t remember the precise genesis of the conflict, but things started off just as us pointing out particularly dumb or confounding [...] I have no idea how I’m awake and functioning this “early” in the morning. Billie finished downloading Mean Girls last night at about 1:30, and we started playing it to make sure it worked and to check out the quality. In terms of watchability we found no problems, since we ended up sitting [...] The rest of my days in Toronto were extremely relaxing, consisting basically of lots and lots of walking, checking out the sights, taking many opportunities to sit and read in out of the way spots, and getting the occasional picture. I had breakfast at the residence a couple of times; it was a buffet style, and [...] The most elaborate offensive in the history of this conflict is set to go tonight. Details and pictures to follow! I spent a few hours in the morning enjoying the atmosphere of Queen’s Park; what a great place to read. I met up with Jen later in the morning and we had a repeat of our breakfast menu from Saturday. We were going to check out the Taste of the Danforth, but it took us [...] Saturday morning started off with a breakfast of cinnamon waffles (frying pan turned out to work surprisingly well after we realized there was no toaster) topped with vanilla ice cream and bananas. Good stuff! We did some browsing in shops along Bloor St., until we arrived at our ultimate destination: Alter Ego, where we hit [...] I was in Toronto from Aug 6-13, so my comments will be a little dated. I’ve written some entries offline because I wanted to have an account of the trip for myself, and here’s the first one … I got into Toronto around noon-ish, and found my way from the bus station to the residence where [...] I got word from the finance office via e-mail that my NSERC Postgraduate Scholarship has been converted to a Canada Graduate Scholarship. In the words of NSERC, a CGS “provide(s) financial support to the most outstanding eligible scholars pursuing master’s or doctoral studies in a Canadian university.” I guess I got the upgrade [...] So apparently I’ve been “highly recommended” by the prof who runs the Statistical Consulting Service for a consulting RA position next term. I don’t know how the hell that happened; it certainly took me by surprise. I just finished a consulting course with that professor this term, but I certainly can’t think of [...] If there’s one thing better than watching a TV show at your leisure on a high quality DVD release, it’s that you can string them together and have your own little marathons. About a week ago I polished off the final ten episodes of Gilmore Girls season 1 within a 24 hr period, more [...] Movie Day the 12th approaches!
