The weather today is just fantastic! After a few balmy days, things have really cooled down, so I took the opportunity to do some reading out on the back porch. Sunny and warm, but not hot and gross; if only all of summer could be like this.
I also tested out doing some web surfing outside. The wireless connectivity with my laptop works just great — in fact, I probably have a better signal than in my room, based on the position of the router. So, this is it: my first outdoor blog post. How exciting! The only drawback with backyard computing is that LCD monitors and sunlight don’t coexist all that well. Hence, staking out a spot in the shade is necessary.
Speaking of firsts, after 9 1/2 months of living here I finally ran the dishwasher. Not to say it isn’t used quite regularly, it’s just that Dan is typically the one to turn it on. He must have been deprived of such conveniences as a child. Combine that with his complete obliviousness to the outside world (in this case, all the energy conservation issues raised in our generation), and we have someone who runs the appliance well before the rest of us would think to. I come from a family of four kids — that dishwasher was not turned on until you could cram no more into it! So when I see empty spots in the racks, it doesn’t occur to me to turn it on!
